Hong Kong sets minimum hourly wage to cut wealth gap

Hong Kong’s government plans to set the level of hourly minimum wage at HK$28 ($4.70).

This is the first time it is imposing limits as it aims to narrow the widening wealth gap in the city.

The new statutory minimum wage is expected to take effect from May 1 next year if lawmakers pass the Bill next week, Mr Matthew Cheung, the city’s labour secretary, said yesterday.
